David is responsible for leading all strategic aspects of the company including the stewardship of its Vision, Mission, and Values. He is also responsible for ensuring its culture of continuous market-making innovation and creative disruption.

Transact became a stand-alone company from Blackboard in May 2019. David joined Blackboard in 2006 and during his tenure, held several leadership roles including Chief Development Officer and head of Enterprise Operations, President of Blackboard Transact, and Senior Vice President of Global Consulting and Application Service Provider (ASP). His leadership ensured client solutions were innovative, effectively implemented, and scalable to meet the dynamic needs of the students they serve. 

Before joining Blackboard, David was a Managing Director (MD) at BearingPoint (formally KPMG Consulting) in the State & Local Government and Education practices.  During this time, as KPMG’s Partner/MD on the US Department of Education, he led a multi-year modernization and re-engineering effort at the Office of Federal Student Aid. There, he was one of the principal architects of Common Origination and Disbursement, the system that ensures delivery of over $140 billion dollars in Federal Student Financial Aid to over 6,000 institutions serving over 15 million students on an annual basis. 

David also led KPMG/BearingPoint’s Higher Education Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence practice as well as developed BearingPoint’s marquee CRM strategy offering, “Student for Life.” Prior to that, he was a CPA in KPMG’s Audit Practice.  

As a national speaker, David is considered an expert in topics such as “The Impact of Technology in Education,” “Ensuring Access to Education through Technology,” and “The Delivery of Frictionless Mobile Innovation.” 

David holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Bachelor of Science in Management and Economics from University of North Carolina. David resides in the Washington, DC, metro area with his wife and two sons.

As the CRO at Transact, Lou is responsible for leading and executing the company’s global sales, marketing, and services strategy.

Lou has a passion for building high-performance sales organizations, along with the culture and talent needed as the foundation. He has effectively done this over his 35-year career as an industry-leading technology and sales leader. Lou brings a proven track record of growing global sales organizations as a longtime executive practitioner.

Most recently, he was Chief Revenue Officer at Nutanix, responsible for driving company growth through global sales strategy and execution, heading up a 2000+ organization that included field and technical sales, business development,  inside sales, channel and OEM sales, and professional services. Previously, Lou was Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer at Informatica, an enterprise cloud data management company where he led a 1500+ global sales organization to a successful go-to-market turnaround.

Prior to that, Lou was General Manager for IBM’s high growth and strategic hybrid cloud portfolio which included over 3500+ field sellers, technical resources, channels, and inside sales. Earlier in his IBM tenure, Lou was General Manager of global sales for IBM Systems Middleware, which included WebSphere, Rational, cloud and smarter infrastructure (Tivoli), and IBM’s cross-brand mainframe software portfolio.

Lou serves on the Advisory Board of Sales Benchmark Index, a prestigious management consulting company that utilizes a specialized benchmarking method to help clients accelerate their rate of revenue growth and leap-frog their competitors.

Brian has over 25 years of technology leadership experience, managing organizations through change and transformation. His background includes small business ownership, telecommunications, data center management, IT operations, software development, and cloud migrations.

As a leader with the Transact team for over ten years, he’s served in various roles, including Support leadership, the first Cloud Services engineer and later moving to Vice President, and now leading Transact’s technology strategy as its Chief Technology Officer. His focus is aligning technical direction to company strategy for Product Development, Cloud Services, and internal IT, and engaging users through Client Support.

Brian holds a Bachelor of Science in Technology Management from DeVry University and has held dozens of technical certifications over the years. Brian resides in Phoenix, AZ, and enjoys woodworking and fishing with his dog.

Dean is Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel for Transact. Prior to joining Transact, Dean served as AGC for Blackboard Inc., with responsibility for its Blackboard Campus Enablement fintech and security business units as well as its Community Engagement SaaS divisions. 

Previously, Dean was COO and General Counsel of Emotive Communications, a technology company enabling the peer-to-peer distribution and sales of media through mobile devices. Dean also served as General Counsel at Moviso, the first and largest ringtone company in North America, where he authored the first licensing structures that brought music to mobile phones, and lead the company through its acquisition by InfoSpace Inc.  

He is a technology and media attorney by training, having worked at Gang, Tyre, Ramer & Brown in Beverly Hills, California, where his practice included representing media companies and artists in entertainment-related transactions. He began his career in corporate practice with Los Angeles-based firm Gibson, Dunn, & Crutcher LLP. 

Dean is a graduate of Harvard University, where he received both B.A. and J.D. degrees. He serves on the board of directors of Nashville-based venture firm Relevance Capital, and is an avid dog lover! 



Thomas Sabol Chief Financial Officer

Thomas has served as our Chief Financial Officer since November 2019 and has over 40 years of financial and operational experience primarily in the high-tech industry for both public and private companies.  

Prior to joining the company, Thomas served as CFO of Rimini Street, a $250 million+ global provider of enterprise software support and services which he helped take public in 2017. From 1996 to 2015, Mr. Sabol served as CFO of several companies including Comverse, Inc. (now Mavenir Systems, Inc.), Hypercom Corporation, Suntron Corporation, Wolverine Tube, and Plexus Corp, where he also served for two years as the Chief Operating Officer, and provided management consulting and CFO services.

Prior to that, he was General Auditor at Kemper Corporation and practiced public accounting for 10 years with Coopers & Lybrand. Mr. Sabol also formerly served as a director of Suntron Corporation.  

Thomas is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a B.S. in Accounting from Marquette University.  



Jeff Staples VP Market Development

Jeff Staples is the Senior Vice President of Market Development where he leads market development, product management, and Transact’s innovation practice.    

Jeff’s organization drives business development and strategy and product management, including advanced ID technology initiatives related to identification, security and payment solutions. Prior to Transact, Jeff was a founding member of the Card Application Technology Center at Florida State University and spent over fifteen years in the ID technology industry developing advanced ID products for the payment and security sectors in higher education. Jeff also provided subject matter expertise and consulting for the U.S. Department of Defense and launched a leading identity and payment industry publication group including CR80News and Regarding ID Magazine.
